Yang miring yang banyak
Yang banyak menang
Yang menang banyak yang miring
As a developing country where education and knowledge are still striving to be emphasized, precautions and safety are mainly neglected in Indonesia. Motorcycles that carry more than two passengers, sitting on top of train or Angkot, disposing wastage to rivers, police-driver bribery, to underage kids riding motor- cycles on road seem to be disregarded and condoned by the society.
Instead, people are publicly repulsing towards harmless circumstances like Ahok’s ambiguous speech and shorthaired women living under one roof. These women underwent social prejudices and furies, expelled by speculations of homosexuality. These ludicrous actions are conducing a new standard of sanity.
There is satire and irony going on in this release. MIRING in English is literally translated as slanted, and in Bahasa it has connotation as a peculiar behavioral pattern that is unlikely to fit in the society. Nonetheless, here standards are demolished, and freedom of expression and self-acceptance are very much expected.
Just like a diagonal line, we equate gender binary by embracing the gray area to honour an aesthetic that transcends social and cultural gaps. These clothes are honest expressions of gender fluidity rather than a conventional definition of masculine and feminine. Here skirts and dresses are not female wardrobe staples, but a garment to be worn – and relished – by all.
